Minister at water conference

THE Minister for the East of England, Barbara Follett MP is set to speak at a water conference later this year.

Water Efficiency in the Low Carbon Economy – what to do and how to do it is to be staged at the AirSpace Conference Centre, Imperial War Museum, Duxford on Thursday, October 30. Sponsored by Inspire East and the Environment Agency, it will raise the debate on water supply and management set against growing environmental impacts.

It is being organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers in partnership with Anglian Water, Waterwise, Essex & Suffolk Water, Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Construction Industry Council East. Mrs Follett visited Grafham Wate in March to launch the East of England Water Partnership. In accepting the invitation to speak she said: Water efficiency is essential for the effective management of water resources.”

Referring to the partnership she continued: Its main aim is to bring spatial and water planning processes and the effective management of water resources at a regional and local level together to facilitate sustainable growth to environmental change.”

Speakers will include:
  • Christ West of the UK Climate Impacts Programme – Climate projections and implications for water management in the East of England
  • Stephen Kay, managing director of Cambridge Water – Non-potable water supply to new development in Cambridge – a UK first
  • John Williamson, Government Office for the East of England – Growth in the East of England – Context for Water Management
  • Chris Spray, Britvic – a case study
  • Rob Bresler, Project Officer, National Industrial Symbiosis Programme – case studies of industrial scale efficiency
