D-Link Tests Energy Saving Device For Ethernet Products

D-Link has announced the results of a power consumption test which it believes validates its claims that its Green Ethernet switches deliver real energy savings.  The tests were conducted by Broadband-Testing Labs.  It believes that its Green Ethernet is the first to be validated independently.

D-Link was first to market with Green Ethernet products last year to capitalise on the increasing number of commercial and public sector organisations that are taking proactive measures to reduce their energy consumption.

The research results provide current and potential D-Link customers with the reassurance that with its Green Ethernet switches, it is not paying lip-service to the current environmental zeitgeist, but actually creating products that deliver measureable energy savings.

Nigel Moulton, VP Enterprise and SME, D-Link Europe, said, "We are delighted that these tests confirm the unique energy-saving capability of D-Link’s business-class switches; an achievement that has not come at the expense of the switches’ performance or price point."

Under test was D-Link’s DGS-1224T 24-port Green Ethernet Gigabit Smart Switch, which is D-Link’s entry point into energy saving networking for the SMB market. Equipped with D-Link Green Ethernet technology, the switch reacts when a device attached to it is turned off, by placing the corresponding port in a standby mode that requires less power. The switches also detect cable lengths and adjust power output accordingly.
