Solar Sailor Signs Contract With Chinese

Solar Sailor, an Australian company that designs and installs solar sails on ships has signed a contract with China's biggest shipping line.The sails are made of aluminum and harness both wind and the sun to reduce fuel costs and cut emissions by 45%.

£67m targeted at rail and water freight

Transport Minister Jim Fitzpatrick today announced a £67m boost to the Sustainable Distribution Fund that will help the freight industry reduce costs and cut emissions.
The money will be targeted at increasing the use of rail and water transport where current schemes support the removal of over one million lorry journeys each year. It will also be used to help hauliers and freight operators cut costs and be more fuel efficient, reduce emissions and cut road congestion.

Sustainable Transport Show and Conference

The Sustainable Transport Show and Conference, planned for October 22, has been postponed. Our parent company, Climate and Environment Media Ltd, is now looking at reorganising the event during 2009.STS logo

"The show and conference had obtained superb support from major car manufacturers such as Lexus and Citroen, and the range of conference speakers was, we believe, compelling," said Mark Williams, editor of Environment Magazine. "But as the year progressed, it became plain that the dire economic climate was beginning to have a serious affect not only on exhibitors but on delegates, who were reining in costs as the City gloom spread.

Biofuel boat back in UK

EARTHRACE got back to the UK in August for the first time since smashing the official round-the-world speed record.

The boat is officially not only the fastest powerboat to travel around the earth, but also the greenest, used only biofuel from sustainable sources as a way of drawing attention to, and fuelling debate about, renewable fuel.
