The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has reported that net U.S. electrical generation from renewable sources includingbiomass, geothermal, solar, hydro, and wind has reached 13% of the total electrical generation for the month of May 2009. This is an all time high and is 7.7 per cent higher than for May 2008. Total electricity generated amounted to 40,395,000 megawatt hours (Mwh). The increased percentage was improved by an overall decline in electricity usage.
Hydro power accounted for 9.4 per cent and non-hydro renewables 3.4 per cent with 1.8 per cent from wind, 1.3 per cent from biomass, 0.4 per cent from geothermal, and 0.3 per cent from solar thermal and photovoltaics.
