Carbon Taxed At 4.4 Cents A Tonne In San Francisco

Businesses in nine San Francisco Bay Area counties will pay 4.4 cents for every ton of greenhouse gases they spew, after the district air-quality board voted 15-1 last week to approve the fee. The fee, set to take effect July 1, will affect more than 2,500 businesses; the district estimates that perhaps seven power plants and oil refineries will have to pay more than $50,000 a year, but most businesses will pay less than $1. New Government Sponsored Climate Change Fund For Scotland

A £18.8 million fund to support communities across Scotland who have imaginative ideas about how to reduce their impact on the climate has been launched. The fund is government sponsored.


Green MSP Patrick Harvie and Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment launched the fund at the Shawslands Academy. Patrick Harvie MSP said:

British Telecom Sets Emissions Targets

BT has announced that it will cut its carbon emissions intensity by 80 per cent across the globe by 2020.

The company also published a new model for measuring and tracking carbon emissions – backed by the Carbon Disclosure Project. This represents an important step in measuring carbon emissions in a consistent way across the globe.
