Global plan for sustainable buildings

An international summit of property industry leaders has agreed to develop a global measuring for green buildings.
Each country in attendance at last week’s MIPIM property convention in Cannes agreed there was an urgent need for a clear reporting standard on sustainability to enable genuine comparison, measurement and benchmarking to take place.

In recent years, it has seemed to many that the protection of the environment has become the focus of ever more National and European legislation. Whilst this is an entirely necessary process, it has resulted in developers increasingly finding that they are being asked to provide reports and assessments on environmental subjects and areas with which they are completely unfamiliar.

The last six months have not been very kind to the environment and climate change.  A recession which now seems all but inevitable in the UK, is distracting the support in Government and business for sustainable causes.  The upfront cost of a sustainable cause is now an impediment to its implementation and the support from Government to secure changes is evaporating as money to fnd programmes is lost in deficits.
